Hunt for driver who fled after police chase

ARMED police descended on a street in Greasbrough to track down a driver and a passenger after they did not stop their cars.

ARMED police descended on a street in Greasbrough to track down a driver who failed to stop when directed.

They were reportedly embroiled in a police chase at 4.20pm on Tuesday after a black Seat Leon failed to stop on Munsbrough Rise, South Yorkshire Police confirmed.

The car was later found abandoned on Woodwise Walk - the driver and passenger had fled the scene.

Armed police officers swept the area trying to locate the driver and the passenger but they were unsuccessful.

Police recovered the vehicle but confirmed enquiries were ongoing to locate them.

However, they did not disclose the reason why they were seeking the driver and the passenger in the first place.

Eyewitness Dec Elsom, who was at the scene, said: “I have seen stuff like this all my life around Rotherham and South Yorkshire.

“There was a chase drone around the area along with an undercover helicopter.

“We are still not sure why they were there but there was talk it was related to an armed robbery.”
