This was in line with the average house increase across the UK, which shot up by 9.6 per cent in the year to September 2022.

Rotherham has the second highest average house price in the county, behind Sheffield’s £217,336, but above the £168,389 for Barnsley and £167,307 for Doncaster.

Kensington and Chelsea topped the table on £1,393,453, while Burnley was bottom of the lot on £116,901.

Rising prices could be putting off buyers, as the statistics show that the total number of house sales in Rotherham during July 2022 was 258 — a fall from 283 in the same month the previous year, and the lowest level in South Yorkshire.
