Has anyone seen Rodney or Archie the parrots?

A PAIR of panicking parrot owners have been searching day and night in a bid to find their lost treasures — two prized pets that flew the nest on the same day.

Rodney, of Bramley, and Archie, of Moorgate, both made their bids for freedom within hours of one another last Wednesday (7) and have not been seen since.

Rev Joanne Siddall fears that Archie the African Grey parrot may make himself vulnerable to predators with his array of party tricks.

Joanne said: “Archie mimics all sorts of sounds and words and I am really concerned that when he starts imitating a pneumatic drill or a firework at the crack of dawn, he will make himself vulnerable.

“His favourite tunes to whistle are not hymns, but Lady Gaga and Will.I.AM.”

Archie escaped when his cage accidentally opened as removal men moved the belongings of Joanne, her husband and their three children to Moorgate from Huddersfield.

Archie was initially located in a nearby tree by a little boy, who was also called Archie, but flew away towards Mortain Road when an RSPCA inspector tried to retrieve him.

Joanne, who was known in Huddersfield for her mobile petting zoo which visited schools and nursing homes, has also seen her black and white cat, Blossom, go missing since arriving on Moorgate.

She said: “Our daughters Lizzie, Abi and Miriam have spent our first week in Rotherham walking the streets of Moorgate calling out ‘Archie and Blossom’, so many people have phoned to offer help. At one point we had a small search party assembled.”

In nearby Bramley, Rodney the Pionus Maximillian parrot sparked a frantic search after he escaped from a summer house in the garden of Richard Sharpe and Mandy Hutton on Oulton Avenue, Bramley, on the same day.

Morrisons employee Mandy (48) said: “He flew off at about 8.30pm and we searched until midnight.

“As soon as it was light again we were up and searching again at around 4.30am.

“We’ve put flyers through people’s doors and have put signs on lamp posts. “We’re so anxious to get him back.”

Rodney, who has been part of the family for 17 years, escaped from the summer house when a mesh door accidentally opened.

Mandy and Richard responded to reports of a parrot at Manor Court, Thrybergh, but found that the similarly-coloured bird was not Rodney.

Steelworker Richard (42) said Rodney had never made a bid for freedom before, adding: “It’s really worrying. We’re desperate to get him home.”
