Half-a-ton of hope donated to hungry by Rotherham Round Table

ROUND table members have donated nearly half-a-ton of hope to hungry families.

Rotherham Round Table used the proceeds of last year’s Christmas float tour to buy 438kg of food, which was presented to to Rotherham Foodbank

The foodbank, based at Hope Church on Grove Road, Rotherham, is run entirely by volunteers and entirely dependent upon charitable donations

Food and drink ranging from sponge puddings and fruit juice to meat, soups and sauces were selected by foodbank manager Steve Prosser with the Round Table funding.

He said: “Over the past 12 months, Rotherham Foodbank has distributed more than 1,370 food parcels helping 2,986 people, including 1,139 children.  “Winter is a time of year when demand for our services peak.

“When Rotherham Round Table approached us, asking for advice as to how they could support us, we were only too happy to advise how a range of basic ingredients can be purchased and used to make healthy and nutritious meals.

“I’d like to thank Rotherham Round Table and its members for their generosity, thoughtfulness and kindness.”

Round Table vice-chairman Stuart Burns said: “Handing over such a large amount food, which will help so many families in town has been one my proudest moments in Round Table.

“What better way is there of serving your community than by helping to support those in the most need?

“Every penny of the funds we raise during activities like our Christmas Float appeal are used to support the people of Rotherham and at this time of year and we couldn't think of a more worthy cause which is making such a huge difference to the people it helps.”

Rotherham Round Table is happy to hear from community groups or organisation in need of help, so long as they are based in the borough.
