Greengrocer is pick of the bunch

MORE than 75 years of service with a smile has led to a greengrocer being named the best in the country.

KD Davis and Sons, which was founded in 1938, won the Farm Shop and Deli Greengrocer of The Year at a show in Birmingham.

The company, which has stalls at Rotherham and Doncaster markets, is still run by the same family.

Andrew and Karen Davis, along with their sons Ryan and Matthew, also offer delivery of produce across the borough.

Ryan (25) said: “I am a bit speechless to be honest. It’s just an amazing feeling and we won the north east business of the year too so it’s a bit of a double whammy.

“I went to the awards ceremony not expecting anything to be honest because I saw the shop we were up against and it’s amazing.

“But the judges said they were impressed with how we deal with our customers and the fact we’re a fourth generation family business.

“I think this is just the start of a period of growth for our business over the next 12 months.”
