Good causes 'missing out on Lottery cash'

ROTHERHAM is being short-changed when it comes to hand-outs for good causes from the Lottery, according to new research.

The Industrial Communities Alliance says that too much National Lottery money is spend on projects in big cities, while smaller industrial communities like Rotherham are missing out.

Since 1995, good causes in Rotherham have received £66m since 1995 — £18.1m below the national average.

The Alliance says that grant applications from deprived communities need more support.

A National Lottery spokesman said that the way grants are recorded made accurate geographical comparisons difficult and statistics could appear skewed towards cities, simply because most organisations were registered there.
