Gas scheme to help Rotherham’s over 60s

HOMEOWNERS aged over 60 are could benefit from a raft of repairs and servicing for their gas appliances as part of a scheme aiming to prepare homes for winter.

Rotherham and Sheffield Home Improvement Agencies are offering the service to homeowners aged over 60, who are in receipt of means tested benefits, or if the state pension is their only income.

Homeowners aged under 60 with disabilities are also eligible for the scheme.

Foundations Independent Living Trust and Gas Safe have awarded a grant of £4,000 to the Rotherham borough to implement the scheme following its success last year.

Support worker Layla Gorman urged people who think they maybe eligible to get in touch.

She said: “Now is the right time to be thinking about whether your gas appliances are ready for winter.

“This scheme is invaluable as it provides assistance to people who otherwise would be unable to heat their homes properly during winter months or could be at risk from using unsafe gas appliances.
