GALLERY: Photographers snap the solar eclipse

ROTHERHAM’S eclipse-watchers endured a nervous spell to see if the celestial spectacle would come off — but it was worth the wait.

As the clouds thinned, our photographers Dave Poucher and Steve Mettam both snapped the solar eclipse on Friday morning from beneath local landmarks Rotherham Minster and and Keppels Column respectively, while readers and amateur photographers both sent us in their snaps of the crescent sun.

Dave and Steve’s shots were taken using Nikon D3S cameras with 31mm focal length, 1/4,000 second exposure and F22 aperture.

Amateur snapper Pete Lowndes took some zoomed-in photos of the phenomenon from the park adjacent to Grayson Road in Greasbrough with a

Panasonic Lumix DMC/FZ8 camera.

Phil Edwards of Mexborough also send us his photo of the partially-eclipsed sun peeping through moody grey clouds.

Andy Rhodes of Lee Croft, Maltby, took a shot of the sun appearing to perch on a TV aerial.

He said: “It was an amzing experience to watch the eclipse.

Although it didnt go dark around here in Maltby, it was sort of twilight and the temperature dropped as the wind picked up just slightly.

“The strangest thing was how quiet it was.

“Only a few birds were singing and when the sun returned so did the birds.”

Liz Biggin of Kimberworth Park also sent us her eclipse shot, although she admitted clouds presented a challenge in producing the perfect photo.

There’s still time to send us your photo of the solar eclipse. Email [email protected].
