Former Rotherham vicar to be bishop of Bedford

The Venerable Richard Atkinson OBE will be consecrated at St Paul's Cathedral, Bedford, on May 17.

He became Vicar of Rotherham All Saints in 1996 after serving as Team Rector in Sheffield Manor.

He is currently Archdeacon of Leicester and had been a member of the General Synod since 1996.

Archdeacon Atkinson's wife, Helen, is a professor of engineering at Leicester University.
