Forged notes used to buy takeaway pizzas

A ROTHERHAM man has been jailed for using counterfeit cash to pay for a takeaway.

Nathan McEvoy, from North Anston, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court.

McEvoy (22), of Windermere Court, used counterfeit notes as payment to a pizza shop in Dinnington last month.

McEvoy, who was arrested on January 16, pleaded guilty to the offences in court last week.

In police interviews he said he had purchased eight counterfeit £20 notes for £10 each, knowing that they were counterfeit.

He further admitted to officers that two of these counterfeit notes were passed to the pizza shop in exchange for a food takeaway delivery.

Pc Mick Fletcher said: “This type of offence undermines the economy. The courts can only pass a strong deterrent when assessing the length of the sentence.”
