ROTHERHAM companies have been urged to throw their weight behind South Yorkshire’s first festival of manufacturing, which will be held next March.

The ball has been set rolling for the inaugural Sheffield Manufacturing Week, with 60 guests attending a launch event at the AMP Technology Centre near Catcliffe.

Sheffield MP Clive Betts told them: “Manufacturing is as important to the future of the region as it has been to its past.

“Sheffield Manufacturing Week is not only a great opportunity to celebrate all that is great about our manufacturing, and to show local people that manufacturing is still relevant to our economy, but also a tremendous occasion to showcase our manufacturing expertise to the world.”

Sheffield Manufacturing Week, which will involve firms from across the South Yorkshire region will take place from March 14, 2011, and is designed to celebrate, promote and improve manufacturing in the Sheffield City Region.

Key themes will include education, involving schools, colleges and universities, open house days, highlighting leading edge technologies, and business growth, with opportunities in meet with key manufacturing organisations from both the UK and beyond.
