Time to back bid to boost Wath’s Montgomery Hall

SHOPPERS are being encouraged to back a bid for a supermarket grant to help give their village hall a new look.

Tesco Bags of Help Initiative teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which provides grants of up to £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects.

Wath Community Partnership is one of three groups in line for a windfall.

Lynn Cadman, spokeswoman for Wath Community Partnership, said: “Our project is to replace the theatre drapes and curtains to the main hall at Montgomery Hall, worth £5,500.

“They are old and beyond repair.

“We desperately need the money to replace them to ensure the hall will continue to be able to offer the quality of environment to the shows.”

Shoppers are being asked to vote by visiting Tesco Extra at Wath or Tesco Express at Furlong Road in Bolton-on-Dearne and using the blue token given when paying to vote for their project of choice.

Electronic Community Village and Mexborough Academy are also in the running, with voting for these projects is open throughout January and February.

The Bags of Help project has already ploughed over £40 million into 9,700 projects across the UK.
