RMBC fines householder £5,000 for refusing to remove rubbish

COUNCIL officials vowed to keep up the pressure on offenders after a householder was fined £5,000 for failing to remove rubbish from outside his property.

Tazim Akhtar, of Hesley Grange, Scholes, was also ordered to pay £876 costs and a £500 victim surcharge after admitting a charge of breaching the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on February 8 that Akhtar failing to comply with an abatement notice relating to an “accumulation” of household waste, which had been issued last May.

RMBC assistant director for community safety and street scene, Sam Barstow, said: “The council is committed to providing a cleaner environment.

We will continue to take action against anyone who is found to illegally dispose of household waste.”
