Overnight water leak still not fixed - as hopepipe ban looms

YORKSHIRE Water has pledged to fix a water leak in Rotherham “as soon as possible” after it was reported just days before a hosepipe ban kicked in.

The spillage was spotted at the junction of Brook Hill and Upper Wortley Road in Thorpe Hesley yesterday afternoon and is still awaiting repairs almost 24 hours later.

Water supplies are under scrutiny after the current UK drought was declared the worst in 500 years, prompting water companies to bar residents from using hopepipes on pain of heavy fines.

Of the Thorpe Hesley leak, Yorkshire Water said in a statement: “We are aware of the leak and will be attending as soon as possible to complete the repair.

“We have more than 550 colleagues working hard to tackle leaky pipes.

“We’ve increased monitoring and analytics to make sure we're targeting the right areas.

“We’re continuing to work with local authority highways teams to secure permits to allow traffic management measures to be implemented to enable works around the region to be carried out safely.”
