End in sight for Le Barge

A DILAPIDATED floating restaurant illegally moored in Rotherham town centre will be removed and sold or destroyed.

Le Barge, a 40-metre-long former nightspot moored on the canal off Central Road, has been empty since a drugs scandal in 2007.

It was set on fire by arsonists last week.

A spokesman for British Waterways North said boat was in breach of byelaws and moves had been underway over the last year to have it removed.

Le Barge was originally opened as Beaujangles in 2001. Three years ago then owners Andrew Wilkes and Susan Creaser, of Thrybergh, were jailed for drugs and money laundering offences.
