Donate books to help South African youngsters

SCHOOLS are being urged to donate books to help South African children as part of a competition.

The 2015 Help a South African School contest asks children in years 1 to 11 to find out about fruit farming and produce a collage about what they have learned.

There are two top prizes of £1,000 for winning schools in two school year categories to spend on resources, as well as prizes for two second and two third placed schools.

Schools are asked to submit their entry with a donation of used books which will be collected free of charge. They will then be shipped to South Africa.

Schools who don’t wish to enter a collage can just donate books.

The competition is run by South African fruit farmers and supported by the South African High Commission, based at South Africa House in Trafalgar Square.

Schools can register to be a part of the Help a South African School project for free at http://www.helpasouthafricanschool.com/

The closing date for entering a collage is May 8.
