Discounts bid to tempt Rotherham shoppers

BUSINESSES across Rotherham are offering their customers record discounts as they struggle to survive the recession.

Research carried out by Flyerzone.co.uk looked at flyers ordered by more than 5,000 of its customers and recorded the level of discount offered by the small and medium-sized businesses.

It emerged that the average discount offered was 21 per cent, compared to an average level of discounting of 16 per cent a year ago.

Lindsey Stables, from Madheads Hair Salon, on Wellgate, said: “This is the first time we’ve offered a discount as we’re trying to attract new customers.

“We think a big discount is the best way to secure new clients who will hopefully become regulars and help us to expand the business.”

The businesses that were surveyed by Flyerzone.co.uk included plumbers, plasterers, physios, fitness instructors and hairdressers.

Across the region, businesses in the North East offered the highest discounts at 23.1 per cent, followed closely by the North West, at 22.8 per cent.
