Dearne Valley folk told “Help save lives and win an iPad”

CREATIVE folk are being urged to take the chance to help save lives — and maybe win an iPad in the process.

As part of a campaign to encourage more people to sign up to the Organ Donor Register, Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals Trust is offering people the chance to win an iPad mini by coming up with a catchy slogan.

More than 10,000 people in the UK currently need a transplant, with three people dying every day due to a lack of donors.

Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals are also keen to reduce the rate of people wh families who do not give consent for organ donation when a loved one who is on the register dies, with 57 per cent currently refusing permission.

Jane Tute, specialist nurse in organ donation, said: “As with the rest of the UK, the number of people on the Organ Donor Register isn’t as high as it should be.

“Just 31 per cent of the population are on the register, yet almost all of us would take an organ if we needed one.

“Because of this, we are going to be carrying out an awareness campaign to hopefully get more people to sign up to the Organ Donor Register.

“As part of the campaign we want people to get involved and come up with a short, catchy slogan that we can use in all of our future publicity work.

“We will be picking a winning entry and the person who sends us the best slogan will win a brand new iPad Mini that has been kindly provided by the Organ Donation Committee.”

Entries for the competition, as well as people’s names, addresses and a phone number can be emailed to: [email protected].

People can also Tweet their entries to @dbh_nhsft using the hashtag #donorcomp

The closing date for the competition is Friday, February 7.
