Dearne flood alerts after deluge

A FLOOD alert remains in place for a section of the River Dearne and several bridges and roads are closed after the recent downpours.

Motorists are being advised to avoid Nursery Lane in Sprotborough, Scotch Spring Lane in Stainton, Wilsic Lane from Wadworth to Tickhill and Fordstead Lane from Barnby Dun to Arksey.

An Environment Agency flood alert remains active for the River Dearne and its tributaries from Denby Dale to Mexborough and Greys Bridge at Denaby is closed due to high river levels.

Furlong Road (road between Adwick-upon Dearne and Barnburgh) is closed

and Pastures Lane at the junction with Cadeby Lane in Mexborough is only passable with care.

A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: “We have been working to respond to localised flooding incidents and a range of requests for support and assistance.

“The council, community flood wardens, police and the Environment Agency will continue to monitor water levels across the borough along with road and bridge closures.

“The Environment Agency has advised that they do not expect river level warnings to be issued above the current alert levels.”

The Met Office forecast dry and cloudy weather with showers dying out for the rest of the week.

Light snow is forecast for Saturday.
