Cyclist and mobility scooter driver hospitalised after collisions

TWO elderly men have been hospitalised after they were involved in separate road traffic collisions that occurred just minutes apart.

A 78-year-old man is in life-threatening condition in hospital following a collision on Clifton Lane, yesterday (Tuesday, November 4).

The man was driving a mobility scooter at the time of the incident.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “At around 1.10pm, it is reported that a red Audi A3 was travelling along Clifton Lane towards Wellgate, when it was in collision with the red mobility scooter.”

Witnesses to the collision are asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 436 of November 4 2014.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police said just ten minutes later on Common Lane in Brampton a red Vauxhall Zafira allegedly came into collision with a 67 year-old man riding a bicycle.

The collision happened between Wood Lane and Hawk Hill Lane and the car, which had black alloys and black wheel trims, reportedly failed to stop and left the scene.

The 67-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains today (Wednesday, November 5).

A 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding in connection with this road traffic collision.
