Would-be cable thieves flee empty-handed

WOULD-be thieves were thwarted in their attempt to steal more than 60 feet of cable from the railway line near Meadowhall.

British Transport Police discovered the 20 metres of cable cut and left by the line at Tinsley junction, opposite St Lawrence Road, last Saturday evening.

Six men, aged between 18 and 30, were seen walking away from the railway junction opposite St Lawrence Road.

Two were described as Asian and wore hooded tops, one with a baseball cap and another a black skull cap and a lightweight jacket that went to a “V” at the front.

Another two were described as white, one with blond, short hair. The other, who had brown hair, wore a green jumper.

The other two were described as being of mixed race.

Network Rail, working with Crimestoppers, is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any cable thieves.
