VIDEO: Police launch campaign to cut road deaths

POLICE and road safety experts are aiming to shine a light on bad driving with Operation Illuminate.

Statistics have shown the number of deaths on South Yorkshire's roads doubled in 2015.

The new campaign was launched by Chief Insp Glenn Suttenwood, head of roads policing at South Yorkshire Police, and Joanne Wehrle, education manager at South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership.

Operation Illuminate's golden rules of good driving: 

  • Drive to the conditions of the road 
  • Don’t speed
  • Never use a mobile phone while at the wheel
  • Don’t drive under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Ensure you and your passengers wear a seatbelt
  • Remember your responsibility to other road users
