TWO men were taken to hospital after a flat was destroyed by fire in Whiston.

The fire started in the bedroom of the top floor Hunger Hill Road flat just before midnight on Tuesday.

Fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent flats, but were damping down until 2.30am.

The men were both taken to hospital by ambulance. One was suffering from smoke inhalation, the other had burns to his hands.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but is not thought to be suspicious.
