Other tips include having a decent steering lock, parking in well-lit spots and using tamper-proof number plate screws.

Chief Insp Ian Womersley said: “In the last few days Rotherham has seen an increase in the theft of property from insecure vehicles, particularly overnight.

“Theft from vehicles will not be tolerated and your local police officers are increasing patrols and making enquiries to bring the offenders to justice.”
