In a social media post, the shocked mum of one of the victims said the attack at 5.45pm on Sunday, October 16, had been “totally unprovoked” and had been filmed by the perpetrators.

“A video was taken of the assault as this is apparently a ‘trend’ to film the assault for points and likes,” she said.

“This happened on Middle Lane at approximately 5.45pm (opposite Tennyson Road entrance) on a busy main road in broad daylight.

“Keep your children safe and make your children aware of what to do in a situation like this.

“My son thought the right thing to do was ignore them and carry on walking home, even though he was being followed and harassed.

“The gang was intent on assaulting my son and his friends in the most humiliating way all for the sake of a filming it.

“The assault was done in a terrorist-style by a gang of cowards as my son and his friends were made defenceless.

“It is a very sad world we live in if our children can’t walk to the shop and back safely in broad daylight.”

The mum appealed for anyone who had seen the attack to contact the police, adding: “They need to be held accountable for their inexcusable and pointless attack on three of the most polite and nicest boys anyone could meet.”

A police spokesperson said: “They were assaulted by a group of unknown teenagers, who are believed to have followed them into the field from nearby shops.
