Teenagers held after Catcliffe house raid

POLICE have renewed their appeal to householders to keep their homes safe during the long winter nights after two teenagers admitted burgling a house in Catcliffe.

A 17-year-old boy from the Woodhouse area has been remanded in custody awaiting sentencing, while a 15-year-old boy from the same area has been released on court bail.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to remind residents of the importance of keeping their homes secure during these dark winter months and urge people to follow this important crime prevention advice.

Police tips include:

  • Using a timer switch on interior lighting throughout the house to make burglars think someone is home.
  • Try not to leave your house in silent darkness. Just by leaving a radio on could make the opportunist think twice.
  • Locking all doors and windows even when you are home.
  • Considering the type of locks you have on your doors
  • Tidying away all garden furniture and equipment where possible for the winter season in a secure garage or shed and ensure that ladders are locked away so burglars cannot use them to climb.
  • Ensuring all sheds and garages are locked securely.
  • Checking that any outside lighting works and replace any bulbs if necessary.
  • Considering the purchasing of dawn to dusk exterior lighting.
