SYP bust a string of suspected 'drug dens' in day of action

POLICE gave suspected dealers a rude awakening yesterday when they busted a string of potential drug dens.

Offucers carried out a day of action in arfield and other areas of Barnsley under Operation Duxford.

The latest crackdown was “the best the district has seen in terms of arrests and drugs recovery”, police said.

One property was raided at 7.30am in Doncaster Road in Darfield, with the front door being destroyed. 

Cannabis was found and seized and one man was arrested, a police spokesperson said.

We are out in force to use our resources from across the force area and our partner agencies to crack down on known criminality and engage with the people we serve in our communities,” they added.

“There were warrants being executed, enforcement action taking place and - just as importantly — community engagement taking place across the district.

“We love to give those who decide to use one of our district addresses as a drug cultivation side project a rude awakening early on a chilly morning.

“Drugs won't be tolerated in our communities.”

SYP results from the day of action included:

  • 17 arrests
  • five successful search warrants conducted
  • 670 cannabis plants being recovered - with all drugs seized today valued at about £670,00
  • two weapons recovered
  • six vehicles seized under the parallel Operation Takeaway
  • 29 stop and searches conducted
  • 37 vehicle checks completed
  • two Public Space Protection Orders issued
  • 27 address visits alongside partner agencies
