Sex offender Mervyn Bramall (75) found with “My Best Paedo” computer file - but spared jail

A REGISTERED sex offender whose “My Best Paedo” and “Kiddy porn” files were found by police officers on his laptop was spared jail.

Mervyn Bramall (75) who pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, was a registered sex offender and had offences dating back as far as 1975.

Mr Daniel Ingham, prosecuting, told Sheffield Crown Court on Monday: “The police attended his home address on February 4, 2021.

“They were carrying out a routine visit.

“They found a laptop on his kitchen table — he was watching a YouTube video.”

The prosecutor said police had found evidence Bramall had viewed an image of a child aged 11 or younger being raped by a man.

Police found 17 inaccessible indecent images on Bramall’s computer.

Four were at Category A — the most extreme level — seven at Category B and six at Category C images.

Mr Ingham said during the examination of the laptop, officers had also found a file named “My Best Paedo” and another file that was found named “Kiddy porn” was found on a USB device.

Mr Chris Aspinall, mitigating, said Bramall, of Swinburne Place, Herringthorpe, had some health difficulties and the number of images found had been “relatively small” compared to his last convictions.

Judge Sarah Wright said she acknowledged that Bramall’s last conviction was 16 years ago and that he had stayed out of trouble since last February.

But she told Bramall that he had pleaded guilty to making the images “that you downloaded from the internet for your own gratification”.

Bramall was sentenced to 20 months in prison suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to go through 55 rehabilitation requirement days and 43 sessions of sex offender treatment.
