Rotherham tricksters posing as charity collectors

POLICE are warning people to be on their guard for doorstep conmen claiming to be collecting for charity.

South Yorkshire Police say there have been several reports recently of a suspicious caller claiming to represent Cancer Research UK.

A police spokesman said: “Those who are genuinely collecting money for charity will be happy to show identification to verify their details, have appropriate paperwork to collate personal information and usually wear clothing displaying the charity logo.

“Please do not give money or banking details to doorstep callers who cannot provide these details.

“Always be cautious of anyone who turns up on your doorstep without an appointment.”
