Road police target foreign criminals

A WEEK-long police project is under way aimed at disrupting criminal activity by denying foreign criminals’ the use of the county’s roads.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police are involved in international operation Trivium 6, trying to cut trafficking, theft and drug crime.

They will carry out roadside checks and use number plate recognition technology and other intelligence to identify suspects.

Chief Insp Glen Suttenwood said: “Once more, we are proud to support this international campaign to target criminals using our transport networks.

“I want to make it very clear that this operation is not about targeting communities. We want to identify and apprehend those individuals whose criminality is a blight on the wider public living and working in South Yorkshire and Humberside.

“We will be working closely with our colleagues in Humberside in the coming days and expect to see a higher police presence as you travel around the region.”
