Prison sentence for shoplifter who caused Rawmarsh retailers' 'misery'

A “PERSISTENT offender” who targeted retail outlets in Rawmarsh has been jailed for six months for nearly 40 shoplifting crimes.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said Guy Slater (36) was arrested by officers from Rotherham North Policing Team on Thursday, August 3, “following a high demand of calls from local retail outlets regarding his persistent offending that has been creating misery for local businesses.”

Slater was sentenced on Friday, August 4, for a total of 39 shoplifting offences and breach of a criminal behaviour order.

The force spokesperson added: “Rotherham North Policing Team will continue with high visibility patrols to support local businesses and are committed to targeting, disrupting and apprehending individuals who shoplift.”
