Police issue vehicle warning following rise in thefts

LAND ROVER owners are being warned to take extra precautions after a rise in vehicle crime.

Thieves stole lights from a black Discovery at Mill Lane, Warmsworth, at some time between 9.30pm on February 5 and 7am on February 6.

It followed a theft from a similar vehicle earlier the same night at Broadway, Dunscroft and thieves struck again at Moss Road, Moss, between 11.30pm on February 6 and 9.15am on February 7.

Police are now warning owners of all vehicles to be extra vigilant.

Supt Eddie Murphy, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We’d urge owners to put their vehicles in garages if possible or if not, park tight up against a wall to make it difficult for thieves.”

South Yorkshire Police launched Operation Lockdown in October to combat house burglary and vehicle crime.

So far, more than 1,200 suspects have been arrested.
