Police are now warning owners of all vehicles to be extra vigilant.

Supt Eddie Murphy, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We’d urge owners to put their vehicles in garages if possible or if not, park tight up against a wall to make it difficult for thieves.”

South Yorkshire Police launched Operation Lockdown in October to combat house burglary and vehicle crime.

So far, more than 1,200 suspects have been arrested.
