Police hunt for safe stolen in Maltby attack

POLICE investigating a “serious assault” on an elderly Maltby man are trying to trace a strong box missing from his house.

The 80-year-old man was found at his Salisbury Road home last Friday, having suffered head injuries.

He remains in hospital in a “serious but stable condition”, according to a police spokeswoman.

Officers are now searching for a small safe which was taken from the address.

It is light grey with a key lock and a black handle, weighing about 7kg — just big enough to store A4 documents.

Investigating officer DS Mike Fordham said: “Salisbury Road is a busy thoroughfare with frequent buses and other vehicles passing through.

“I appeal to anyone who may have been passing, particularly early on Tuesday, October 1, to cast their mind back — did you see anything suspicious?

“The smallest detail could be vital to this investigation and I would ask anyone with information to please come forward.”

Two 19-year-old men arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted murder have been released on police bail.

A 23-year-old man was also arrested, but released on without further action on Sunday.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 408 of October 1.
