A DRIVER who fled on foot after a police chase ended in a crash was tracked down by a sniffer dog.

The Vauxhall Astra driver caught the attention of roads policing officers at 10.26pm last night (Wednesday) on Pontefract Road, Manvers, after being suspected of having no insurance.

“The driver, a 30-year-old man, failed to stop and a pursuit commenced,” said a police spokeswoman.

The chase, which lasted for approximately two miles, ended when the Astra collided with street furniture on Aldham House Lane, Wombwell.

“The driver of the car fled from the scene,” added the spokeswoman.

“A dog handler and his dog later found the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of failing to stop for officers, dangerous driving, going equipped for theft and for driving while under the influence of drugs.
