Pets die as firebugs torch house

TWO cats were killed in a house fire which firefighters believe was started deliberately.

Crews from Rotherham and Maltby fire stations entered the property on Woodgrove Road, East Herringthorpe, at around 12.15am this morning after neighbours were unable to confirm whether the house was occupied.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and carried out a search of the two storey property and discovered the two cats inside.

The ground floor was fire damaged and the first floor was heavily smoke logged.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that the blaze had been recorded as “deliberate.”
