New police appeal five months after fatal collision near Ravenfield

A POTENTIAL witness is being sought by police investigating the death of a pedestrian five months ago.

Darren Smith (42) was pronounced dead at the scene between Ravenfield and Braithwell after being hit by a car.

Police believe another man was also walking along Common Lane and have issued a new appeal for information.

PC Richard Thorley said: “We believe this man, and potential witness, may have spoken to an officer in a marked patrol car that night.

“We would very much like to identify this man as we think he may have witnessed the collision in which Mr Smith sadly died.”

The incident happened at about 8.20pm on March 14. Call 101 quoting incident 867 of that date with any information.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the contact South Yorkshire Police had with Mr Smith earlier on the day he died.
