More than 50 firefighters tackle Tata oil blaze

MORE than 50 firefighters spent six hours tackling an oil blaze at Tata steel.

Ten fire engines attended the Aldwarke Lane site at around 1am on Thursday, with most remaining until 7am.

The fire involved thousands of litres of oil, but was confined to one building near the middle of the site.

All Tata staff were evacuated while crews put out the blaze and made the site safe.

A fire service spokesman said there are no reports of any injuries.

People living near the site were asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution, due to a huge amount of smoke in the area.

They were also asked to stay away from the site while emergency services worked.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but a fire service spokeswoman said investigations will begin soon.
