Man rescued from Greasbrough flat fire

A man has been rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in his kitchen at in the early hours of this morning.

Two fire crews from Rotherham station were called to the flat on Greenside in  Greasbrough at 1.45am.

A fire service spokesman said: “The man had left a pan on the grill and had fallen asleep.

“Firefighters banged on the door but were unable to wake him, so had to break into the flat, before leading him out safely.

“We used a hose reel to quickly put the fire out and then ventilated the flat.”

The man, who was in his 60s, was taken to hospital as a precaution
