Man convicted of Rotherham murder

A MAN has been convicted of the murder of a 44-year-old man in Rotherham.

George Dunn, known to many as Jock, died of multiple stab wounds as a result of the attack at a flat in Greenfield Road, Herringthorpe, on May 23.

Mark Stocks (40), who lived at the property, was arrested at the scene and later charged with his murder.

He denied the charge and appeared at Sheffield Crown Court for trial where todayhe was found guilty by a jury.

Donna Haylock (45), from the same address, also stood trial charged with Mr Dunn's murder and perverting the course of justice.

She was found not guilty of murder but was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Detective Supt David Barraclough, who led the murder investigation, said: “This was a sustained and violent attack which was the result of a dispute, the exact cause of which remains unclear.

“The alarm was raised by a neighbour after Mr Dunn had stumbled from the scene and collapsed on their doorstep. Once officers gained entry to Stocks’ flat they discovered the murder weapon in the bathroom and a large amount of blood in the property.

“Despite this evidence, Stocks claimed self defence.”

Stocks and Haylock are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court next Thursday.
