Man charged with murder after body discovered in a house

John Sowden of Elm Road, Mexborough, was initially arrested after a body was found at a house on Auckland Road, Mexborough, at around 1.45pm on Sunday and will appear at Doncaster Magistrates' Court later this morning.

Police named the deceased as as 48-year-old Christopher Rooney yesterday.

A police spokesman said that a post mortem examination carried out on Monday  found that Mr Rooney had died from “multiple injuries to his head and body.”

Forensic teams cordoned off an area around the Auckland Road property as well as an alley way and nearby playing field following the discovery of Mr Rooney’s body on Sunday.

Shops on Adwick Road were also closed for part of Monday as a full search of the area was carried out.
