Man arrested following assault in Darfield

A 37-YEAR-old man has been arrested following a serious assault in Darfield on Sunday afternoon. 

It was reported that at around 4.20pm, on July 12, a 26-year-old man and his friend were walking along Venetian Crescent after getting out of a taxi.

A police spokeswoman said the pair were then approached by a group of people they did not know, who allegedly began shouting abuse.

"An older male then approached the victim, before hitting him with a bat and leaving him with serious injuries to his face and body," added the spokeswoman. 

Officers were called and arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has since been released under investigation.
