Incident in Rotherham Town Hall resolved

Police thanked the public for their patience after today's incident at Rotherham Town Hall was resolved at around 7.30pm.

A 36-year-old man "left the premises of his own accord," a spokeswoman said.

She added: "He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently being questioned by officers.

"South Yorkshire Police would like to thank members of the public for the patience demonstrated during today's operation."

The Town Hall was cordoned off and The Crofts was closed to traffic earlier today after the police were called at 9.45am and negotiators began speaking to the man.
