Funding up for grabs for Rotherham groups

GRANT funding of £2 million is being made available to community groups helping to fend off the risk of fires across the region.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is hoping to attract bids for funding packages worth between £5,000 and £250,000 from registered charities, community organisations and partners agencies who can help them drive down the number of fires throughout the region.

Fire authority chairman, Cllr Jim Andrews, said: “For many years, the Fire Service has been very successful at driving down incidents.

“As an Authority, we know that we can only sustain these improvements by working together with partners to make community safety work joined-up and responding to local needs.

“That's why we've decided to set aside this money, because we know it is only by working alongside community groups, charities and other partner agencies that we can continue to make the lives of the most vulnerable people in society safer.”

The application process to acquire grant funding from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue incorporates three separate stages.

An expression of interest form must be completed for the first stage, which takes place between January 6 and February 10.

Stage two, which takes place in mid-February, will involve a presentation to an assessment board prior to stage three, the development of a formal service level agreement.
