Firefighters tackle Anston quarry blaze

FIRE crews have put out burning machinery and diesel at a rock crushing plant in South Anston.

Two appliances from Aston and Maltby fire stations attended the blaze on Sheffield Road at 7.30am today.

They spent an hour fighting the fire with a hose reel.

A spokeswoman said at 8.45am that crews were beginning to clean up.

No injuries have been reported. Investigators believe that the fire was started deliberately.

Three fire engines also tackled a kitchen fire in Masbrough last night.

Two crews from Rotherham and one from Darnall attended the Winifred Street house at around 6.30pm, putting out a blaze which began on a cooker hob.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire, which is thought to have been started accidentally.
