Firefighters deal with series of arson attacks

FIREFIGHTERS fought several suspected deliberate fires over the weekend.

Crews from Aston station attended Pocket Handkerchief Lane in Todwick at 5.40am on Saturday, when a car was on fire.

They left the scene around half-an-hour later — the vehicle was so badly burned that it could not be identified.

Tankersley station staff attended Springwood Road, Hoyland at 5.40am on Sunday, where refuse was alight in a garden.

The blaze spread to guttering, but not a nearby house. Staff left at around 6.05am.

Cudworth station staff attended Snydale Road, Cudworth at 10.50pm last night, when a car was ablaze.

They put out the Peugeot 308 and left the scene at around 11.05pm.

Rotherham station staff attended Scrooby Lane, Parkgate at 11.55pm yesterday, where a Suzuki car was on fire.

Crews left the scene around 25 minutes later.

And Tankersley station staff attended West Street in Hoyland at 4.15am today, to put out a commercial wheelie bin fire.

Staff used a hose reel on the blaze, leaving around 15 minutes later.
