Fifth arrest in canal murder investigation

Detectives have now arrested a fifth person as part of their ongoing murder investigation into the death of 17-year-old Rotherham mum Laura Wilson.

The 17-year-old local male is the fifth person arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Laura’s death. Her body was found in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation Canal near Steel Street, Rotherham, on Tuesday, October 12, three days after she was reported missing.

A further 17-year-old male and three men aged 22, 26 and 44-years-old have previously been arrested and released on police bail in connection with the murder investigation.

Officers from Rotherham North Safer Neighbourhood Team will join members of the investigation team for a high-visibility police appeal in the Ferham area between 8pm tomorrow and 1am on Sunday.

Laura was last seen by family friends at around 9.30pm on Saturday, October 9, close to her home address in the Holmes area of Rotherham.
