Family moved out of home as scrap metal fire spreads

A FAMILY had to be temporarily evacuated from their home after a fire amongst scrap metal spread into their property through an air vent.

A FAMILY had to be temporarily evacuated from their home after a scrap metal fire spread into their property through an air vent.

The fire began between two properties on Upper Wortley Road, Kimberworth, at about 3.25am on Thursday morning.

It is believed that a discarded cigarette may have started the blaze.

Three fire engines were called to the scene and there were no injuries.

The family was allowed to return to the house after a short time.

Fire officers spent just over an hour at the scene.
