Cyclist dies after collision with car

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 23-year-old cyclist died after colliding with a car yesterday evening.

A silver Land Rover Freelander and a silver Carrera pedal bike were both travelling from Rossington towards Tickhill on Stripe Road just after 8.05pm on Thursday.

As the two vehicles approached the junction with High Common Lane, the Freelander collided with the rear wheel of the pedal cycle.

The 23-year-old rider of Bawtry was thrown from his seat and struck the Freelander, coming to rest on the road.

He sustained fatal head injuries from the collision. The driver of the Freelander, an 85-year-old local man, was not injured.

The cause of the collision is unknown at this time.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and for information about the movements of both vehicles prior to the collision.
