Child sex abuse trial: 'Girl tortured and forced to store guns and drugs'

A WOMAN has told a court of her five-year ordeal at the hands of Basharat Hussain who she says repeatedly tortured her and forced her to store guns and drugs at her parent’s home when she was a teenager.

The woman (33) said he would often tie her up in cable ties, cover her face with sheets, pour petrol on her and force her into having sex with other men.

The witness is the fourth alleged child sexual exploitation (CSE) victim to give evidence at Sheffield Crown Court and said the sexual abuse at the hands of Hussain began when she was 14 or 15.

She told the court she thought Hussain was around 22-years-old at the time.

On her 16th birthday she said she was pressurised into having sex with him at an address on Clough Road.

She said in her recorded police interview shown to the jury about the incident: “It’s not a nice memory, I thought it was disgusting.”

The woman said after her birthday he gradually became more aggressive and first tied her up after an irate phone call he received in his car.

She said he grabbed her by the throat and tied her wrists together, but when he got out of the car to talk on the phone she managed to escape and hide in some bushes until he drove away.

The incident left her petrified and he visited her parent’s home the next day to apologise to her, the court heard.

The woman said: “He was nice for a bit and would buy me jewellery and things like that. He was introduced to my mum and family.

“One day he was taking me home he said ‘can you put this in your room?’ and passed me a wrap of pills.”

The witness said she refused but Hussain said her life would not be worth living if she did not do as she was told.

The woman said this carried on for several years through her teens and she was forced to hide guns, knives, knuckle dusters and drugs in her bedroom.

When she initially refused to store a gun he told her he would burn down the derelict house opposite her parent’s address.

The woman said: “That night the house went up in flames and the next day he told me he had organised it.”

During this time Hussain also took the teenager to a flat where there were Asian men including his brother Ash, she said.

She added: “Bash and another man grabbed hold of me and ripped up a sheet and put it round my face so I couldn’t see and tied my hands and feet together.

“They moved me into a bedroom, shoved me down in the corner and told me to listen. They poured petrol on my feet and I could hear other people having sex.

“I was petrified, it was horrible.

“This happened around four times, once they set fire to my shoes and went and bought me some new ones.”

The woman claims she was also forced to have sex and perform sex acts on multiple men at the address, the jury heard.

She said Basharat said if she told anyone he would hurt her family or tell the police she was doing drugs.

She said: “I never took any drugs, I was a good girl, I didn’t drink or smoke.

“He said he would kill me and make sure he got rid of my body.”

When she was 19-years-old she said she got pregnant to Hussain but had a termination.

She said: “He called me all the names under the sun.”

Soon after this he told her to book a holiday, she said, “out of the blue”.

She said: “He wouldn’t let me use sunscreen and I burnt my legs so bad to the point where I couldn’t walk so I had to stay in bed.”

When they returned home she said Hussain was arrested at the airport by police.

While he was in prison the woman said contact faded but she saw his brother Ash in Tesco Rotherham who pressurised her into visiting him in jail.

The woman told the court: “Ash said to me, ‘you’re a special one, you know you’re different from anybody else’.

“They always used to say that to me.”

All seven defendants deny the charges against them. The trial continues.
