Cars destroyed in garage repair centre fire

SEVERAL cars were destroyed after a family-run garage repair centre caught fire in the early hours of the morning.

Five fire engines from Rotherham, Elm Lane, Parkway and Central stations were called to the industrial premises on Clough Road, Masbrough at 1.50am on Saturday morning.

On arrival firefighters found the car repair and servicing centre, Northern Stag Centre Ltd, well alight with a number of cars inside the premise.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to tackle the fire.

“A small number of cars were destroyed or damaged in the incident.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing."

The business was established 27 years’ ago by Nick Wood and is run by his sons Peter and Edward.

Firefighters also dealt with another garage fire over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Three crews from Dearne, Edlington and Rotherham attended the incident at Maple Road, Mexborough at 12.45am on Sunday.

The SYFR spokeswoman said the fire was started deliberately in the derelict, detached garage and crews left the scene at 2.30am.
